How the give works, what's in the bars, and what you can and can't do on this site today. Where we haven't decided something yet, that's the answer.
The give
- How does one bought, one given work?
- Every bar you buy is matched by a Give Bar we make and hand to a food bank. It isn't a share of proceeds or a round-up; it's a second bar on the line. On the 1st of each month we count what sold and make exactly that many.
- Why monthly instead of instantly?
- Because a run can be counted. Monthly runs let us publish two numbers: what we owe, and what food banks confirm receiving. Anyone can check they match. Instant giving sounds better and proves less.
- Who actually receives them?
- Food banks, shelters and school meal programs that already reach people who need food and know how to get it to them. We don't hand out bars ourselves. FEEDER hasn't launched, so nothing is signed yet: the names on the partners page are examples, and real ones go up as agreements are signed.
- Does this fix hunger?
- No. Food insecurity is a structural problem and one bar doesn't touch the structure. What a bar does is feed someone once, through people already doing the work. We'd rather say that than oversell it.
- How do I know the numbers are real?
- The ledger publishes every run: bars owed, bars handed over, and the date. Each food bank is named and linked to its own site so you can check it exists. Today those are sample numbers, because we haven't sold anything yet, and the page says so.
The bars
- What's in them?
- A date-and-oat base with whole nuts and seeds. Plant-based, gluten-free, non-GMO, and no added refined sugar anywhere in the line. Every macro and ingredient figure on this site is a placeholder we wrote to design against. None of it is lab-verified, and all of it gets replaced with co-packer data before anything goes on sale.
- Is the Give Bar the same bar?
- No, on purpose. The bar you buy is built to compete on taste in a crowded snack aisle. The Give Bar is built for its own job: nut-free, fortified, good for a year on a shelf, and cheap enough per unit that the model pays for itself instead of leaning on donations.
- I have a nut allergy. Is this safe for me?
- Don't rely on anything on this site for allergen safety yet. The allergen statements here are placeholders, not verified manufacturing facts, and we won't ask you to trust them. Verified allergen information will be on every product page and on-pack before we sell a single bar.
Ordering
- Can I buy a single bar?
- No. FEEDER sells packs of 6, 12, or 18. Packs are what keep the price per bar where it is, because they ship more efficiently, and that price falls as the pack grows. Every pack gives its own count, so 6 bought is 6 given, 12 is 12, 18 is 18.
- Can I buy right now?
- No. FEEDER hasn't launched and there's nothing to ship. You can pick a pack and send us your email so we know what people want. No card, no charge. Until the mailing list is running we can't keep the address either, and the form says so before you type it.
- What happens to a reservation?
- Less than the word suggests. Your packs are saved in your own browser so you don't have to rebuild them. We never hold stock and we never lock a price, since the prices here are still placeholders. Once the mailing list is running, we'll write when packs go live so you can order for real.
- How does the subscription work?
- Any pack, monthly or every other month, at 10% off. It's the intended default because a steady subscription makes the giving predictable, so we can plan a run instead of guessing. Skipping, switching and cancelling will all be self-serve, and none of it is built until checkout is.
- What about shipping?
- Not quoted yet. The plan is free US shipping over $35, which The Eighteen clears on its own, with real rates published before checkout opens. We'd rather price it once off a real contract than guess at it now.
- What's the return policy?
- We haven't written one yet. It'll be up, in plain words and without a maze, before we take a single payment.
The company
- Who is behind FEEDER?
- One person in Boston, paying for it out of pocket. The site, the financial model and the ledger are all built here, which is why this FAQ can tell you which parts aren't finished. Why FEEDER exists is on the Our Story page.
- Where can I see what's real and what isn't?
- Anywhere it matters, we say so on the page itself: the strip at the top, the notices on the product pages, the note on the ledger and partners pages. If something isn't verified, it's labeled. If you find one that isn't, tell us.
